Party Secretary Yan Li leads a delegation to Tanzania

On October 28th, Party Secretary Yan Li embarked on a business trip to some Belt and Road countries (Tanzania, Namibia and UAE) in explore new foreign trade opportunities.

The Changzhou business delegation’s first leg is Tanzania. On October 29th, the delegation visited the Tanzania-China Friendship Textile Cooperation (FRC). Sponsored and built by China in 1966, FTC is located in the outskirts of Dar-es-Salaam. It was transformed into the Tanzania-China Friendship Textile Cooperation in 1996 and its operation and production are now managed by personnel from Changzhou. Equipped with spinning and dyeing assembly lines, FTC has a annual production capacity of 10 million meters of dyed cotton cloth. And it has a 20% market share in Tanzania. Since its establishment, FTC has generated an aggregate sales revenue of 1.3 billion RMB, provided jobs for locals and contributed to Tanzania’s development. With FTC as a bridge, Changzhou and Dar-es-Salaam became sister cities in 2009, which has promoted investments in Tanzania by Changzhou local companies.

In the evening of October 29th, Party Secretary Yan Li attended FTC’s 50th anniversary celebration together with Mr. Gou Haodong, Minster Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Tanzania, and Dr. Meru, Executive Secretary of the Industry, Trade and Investment Ministry of Tanzania. When addressing the audience, Mr. Yan Li hopes that personnel from Changzhou can seize opportunities and sow the seeds of hope in Tanzania.
